We start off our writing with research week, using Google Scholar we’re able to search refined studies and information about anything we’re seeking for our stories. Through a lot of refining and searching we then find what we consider to be a reputable source - reputable sources can be defined as anything with concrete provable data. This in turn solidifies or modifies our angle and we are able to tackle sources.

JOURNALISM
This is a compilation of some of my favorite shots I've ever taken during my tenure at Southeast. Captions can be accessed by hovering on the images below.

All shots were taken in Lincoln, NE.
GO KNIGHTS
Lincoln Southeast JV cheer performs their fight song routine to kick off the Homecoming pep rally, gold pom-poms shimmering to the beat of the pep band. The pep rally is held in anticipation for the Homecoming game featuring the Knights (home) versus Pius X (away) at Seacrest Field later that day. Students are encouraged to attend the dance, after the game, held right in Southeast’s own Prasch Gym.
RIVALRY CONTINUES
4th down, 14 yards from a touchdown for the Southwest Silverhawks. Seniors (right to left) Wyatt Tiangco, Spencer Allgood, Meg Hatfield, and Murphy Grealish lead the student section in a customary finger cross, a Southeast tradition to uphold good luck. Under heavy pressure by Knights defensive linemen Tramar Byron (12), and with coverage downfield by Knights safety Devin Trumbley (11), the pass fell incomplete, securing the victory for the Knights Oct.26, 22-13, their first playoff game win against the Southwest Silverhawks since 2012.
DEVOS V. STUDENT PROTESTS
On Sept. 12, 2017, U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos visits Nebraska to greenlight her Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), focused on rating schools with a standardized system to improve achievement and eliminate chronic absenteeism. DeVos visited Lincoln’s own Zoo School, focused on biology and botany. Members of the School met DeVos on campus wearing ‘I [heart] Public Schools’ shirts, in a protest against DeVos’ favoritism towards the privatized education system. Students were able to open a discussion forum with DeVos for their questions about her future plans.
STEP LEFT, C SHARP
Lincoln Southeast’s Marching Knights took to Seacrest Field to perform their competition piece, Broken Clocks, for attendees of the Southeast Knights v. East High Spartans game. Led by band director Richard Metteer, the Clarinet section marches confidently alongside fellow marching band members in a final performance before their competition in Norfolk, NE.
TWIRL
Senior Color Guard member Alyssa Johnson carries the gold-crested flag in the Marching Knights rendition of Broken Clocks. Johnson and the Guard carry the difficult task of landing every twirl, twist and toss during the performance. But through lots of practices on the field, the Color Guard makes it look like one relaxing walk in the park.
BRO TO BRO
Half time for the Knights in their homecoming game versus Pius X. The score is 14-10, Knights lead. Christian Bodel (12) waits on the field with defensive lineman Tramar Byron (12), one could only assume they’re talking about their dates for the homecoming dance, or perhaps a new offensive strategy.
TOUCHDOWN SOUTHWEST
The Knights take a gut-wrenching blow and the student section roars in disbelief. The Southwest Silverhawks now tie with the Knights, 10-10, scoring their only touchdown of the game. The frazzled students await the Knights next play, hoping the team takes the lead once again.
CAPTURE THE MOMENT
It’s a chilling 19 degrees on the day of the 2018 Women’s March - but that never stopped these activists. Participants are chanting, and most notably, snapping pictures. To this man, this is the perfect moment. Attendees are listening, signs raised, “Women’s rights are human rights!”. This is it, this is the one going on his Instagram.
